FORT CHIPEWYAN SWIMMING POOL COMPLEX
Fort Chipewyan, ALBERTA

The Fort Chipewyan Swimming Pool Complex has been designed to evoke the surrounding landscape and local First Nations culture, but sustainability is just as important as aesthetics for this 18,500-square-foot aquatic centre. Built to LEED standards, the facility has a number of energy efficiency features, including a heat recovery system that scrubs heat from air conditioning units to warm the pool water. The project also overcame the logistical challenges of a remote site location and the disruption of the Fort McMurray wildfire to remain on time and on budget.
